Music Education

our MUSIC EDUCATION OUTREACH

DC Strings Workshop operates from the belief that all people, particularly young people should experience the joys of music, and access to quality music instruction. We speak up at the local, state and national level for public and charter schools to develop strong music programs and work with community partners to expand access to high quality music programs, particularly in underserved areas.

DC STRINGS PARTNER DMV PERCUSSION ACADEMY LEADS A PERCUSSION EXPLORATION CLASS

DC Strings Workshop (DCSW) is committed to bringing music education, outreach and building support for stronger music programs in public and charter schools – particularly underserved areas of the District. Our performers, teaching artists and supporters regularly supplement regular music education instruction in schools, community centers, recreation centers and other places of learning for youth. DCSW has led group classes at Sitar Arts Center and in partnership with the Levine School of Music at theARC.

DCSW reaches young audiences through – masterclasses, private lessons, workshops, presentations and performances. To-date DC Strings Workshop has donated over 20 instruments to students in need and paid for over $10,000 of private lessons.

DC Strings Workshop is proud to present the Carr-Petrova duo in residency, September 12-16, 2019 in partnership with The General Board of Church and Society, The United Methodist Church’s denominational social justice agency on Capitol Hill. Click here to learn more about this residency.

HART MIDDLE & JOHNSON MIDDLE SCHOOLS

DC Strings Workshop supplements band instruction by coming into the classroom on a weekly basis to assist students with playing an instrument. We have donated 15 instruments to the school to date. At Johnson Middle School we have hosted several recital and percussion programs to build interest in a band or orchestra. This program is part of our East of the River Concert & School Initiative which is currently sponsored by EventsDC.

DC Dream Center

On a weekly basis, DC Strings Workshop teaches a string class to young students. This offering is part of other musical classes students can choose from (flute, chorus, music theory, piano, and strings). DC strings regularly joins the Dream Center for community workshops and performances.
