April 10, 2018 – (Washington, DC) DC Strings Orchestra invites the public to experience Beethoven, Bloch and Mussorgsky. The performance features concerto winner and viola soloist Eugene Dyson, a native Washingtonian who has traveled extensively and performed in some of America’s top venues, festivals and orchestras.
Led by Music Director, Veronica Jackson this performance combines a spoken word exhibition and the exploration of works that grapple with the “humanity that is part of all of us.”
“DC Strings Orchestra performs music throughout the District that engages new audiences and recognizes composers and works that are not often performed, said Andrew Lee, Artistic Director of DC Strings Workshops. “Whether it’s Capitol Hill, Anacostia or a neighborhood in between, we exist to challenge and present a more complete portrait of classical music through showcasing artists, musicians and works from underrepresented groups.”
Prior to the performance at 3:00 p.m., there will be a pre-concert performance and petting zoo with members of the orchestra. This is not an event to be missed, as often youth can pursue opportunities to obtain an instrument or have lessons sponsored.

About DC Strings Workshop
DC Strings Workshop (DC Strings) hosts a dynamic and versatile orchestra, “DC Strings” consisting of musicians committed to bringing music to all areas of the DMV, particularly underserved communities. With a mission to celebrate and recognize the contributions of musicians, conductors, composers, women and people of color to the genre of classical music, the orchestra and various ensembles have presented over 30 concerts since the organization’s founding in 2016. Partnerships include collaborations with area music schools and other civic organizations to attract thousands of patrons in every quadrant of the city.
A Ward-8 based community non-profit organization, DC Strings Workshop takes pride in presenting meaningful and challenging orchestra works that rival the programming of large, fully professional orchestras. Our members have performed at official National Park Service events, museums, churches, schools and corporate/civic events.
